Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 15 September 2017

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Last week, some Conservative MPs launched a new manifesto to strengthen families.
  • Hurricane Irma has caused around $100 billion of damage in the US and left some Caribbean islands needing to be almost entirely rebuilt. 47 people lost their lives and millions of people have been displaced.
  • An earthquake hit Mexico last week killing at least 61 people.
  • Around 30,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh since August. The UN has referred to the crisis as "ethnic cleansing". Aung San Suu Kyi has been criticised for failing to protect the Rohingya.
  • MPs have voted to back the Government's EU (Withdrawal) Bill, which will now progress to the Committee Stage. However, MPs from all parties are seeking amendments to deal with concerns over so-called Henry VIII powers.
