Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 2 June 2017

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

  • People in the UK will vote in the general election next Thursday, 8 June.
  • Police now believe that the suicide bomber who carried out the attack at Manchester Arena last week acted mostly alone.
  • Christians across the world, particularly those in Egypt, are experiencing increased persecution from groups associated with Islamic State.
  • Christians are being urged to pray for their Muslims neighbours as they celebrate Ramadan this month, and for Christians in Muslim-majority countries who may experience greater harassment or persecution during the fasting season.
  • Last month, a controversial benefits cut came into effect reducing the payments some disabled people receive.
  • The EU has indicated its intention to begin formal Brexit negotiations with the UK on 19 June.
