The LORD is righteous in all he does, merciful in all his acts. He is near to those who call to him, who call to him with sincerity.

Sunday
Father God, we praise you that places of worship have been allowed to stay open during this third national lockdown. Thank you that in England and Wales we have the freedom to worship. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Scotland and Northern Ireland who are unable to do so at the present time. Please give wisdom and courage to church leaders as they make decisions relating to lockdown. We pray that vaccines can be rolled out promptly, so that church life throughout the United Kingdom can return to normal. In your name. Amen.

Monday
Lord of all comfort, we pray for the many thousands of children who, once again, are having to experience online lessons instead of being taught in school. We think particularly of those with special educational needs such as autism, who find lockdown very stressful. Please be with them, we pray. Help their parents and carers to make things as “normal” as possible for them at this time. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Tuesday
Prince of Peace, please be with the families of the 62 people who died in the recent aeroplane crash in Indonesia. Your word in Psalm 147v3 reminds us that “He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.” We pray that the cause of this crash can be discovered quickly and lessons learned to reduce the risk of it happening again. Thank you that the “black boxes” have been located. May they provide vital information in the air accident investigation that is now taking place. In your mercy. Amen.

Wednesday
Righteous Judge, we thank you for freedom of speech that we enjoy in the United Kingdom. However, Lord, we are reminded of Christians who have been victimized for expressing unease over issues such as ‘Pride Marches’, adoption by same-sex couples and ‘relationship and sex education’ in primary schools. We pray that Christians can continue sharing their opinions and beliefs without fear of losing their jobs. May they be listened to respectfully and their concerns taken into account. Through Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Thursday
Faithful One, we give thanks that Christian MP Fiona Bruce has been appointed to the position of the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief and has now taken up that post. We lift her to you Lord, as she has already experienced some opposition to her appointment. Please give her courage, tenacity and wisdom to be spiritually prepared for all that this position involves. May she speak for those who are persecuted and have no voice. Your word in Jeremiah ch9v24 reminds us “That you are the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth.” For your glory. Amen.

Friday
All Wise Saviour, we bring all police officers and particularly frontline officers to you at this often difficult time. Please, we pray, give them wisdom as they interact with members of the public. Grant them the words to say and let their policing be clear but fair in the way they deal with people. May their authority be respected. We ask that police and churches can work together in every community to reduce crime and improve quality of life. In your precious name. Amen.

Saturday
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son shared at Nazareth the life of an earthly home; we pray for the importance of families and family life. Help us to remember that the family remains the fundamental building block of society. For this reason, we ask that governments of all colours will continue supporting the family. Give them grace to recognise how the family environment is crucial to children’s outcomes and long-term development. For the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
