Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 08 December 2017

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Prime Minister Theresa May has struck a last minute deal with the EU to move Brexit talks on to the next phase. There will be no "hard border" in Ireland. Also, EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU will see their rights protected. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said "the breakthrough we needed" had been achieved, after months of negotiations. Talks on post-Brexit trade between the UK and EU can now go ahead.

  • The Church of England has launched its #GodWithUs Christmas campaign, aimed at encouraging people across the country to start or strengthen their faith journey. The Church will release three videos throughout December to showcase some of the many services that take place during Advent and Christmas. The first is nine lessons and carols, the second shares the joy of children enjoying a Christingle service and the final one a Christmas service.

  • New billboards are being installed in three cities in the US states of Texas and New Mexico, encouraging people to "skip church" to avoid "fake news" this Christmas. They are being produced in the US states of Texas and New Mexico by atheists who claim Christians "don't have a monopoly" over Christmas.
