Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 10 August 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • House of Fraser is appointing administrators after giving up the fight to save the business, putting thousands of jobs at risk. However, all 59 shops are set to open as usual today, including 31 that have already been marked for closure.

  • The heatwave is being blamed for record numbers of people going to A&E in England. More than 2.17 million people visited A&E in July, up from 2.09 million in June. Most were suffering from dehydration, heart failure and kidney problems related to the unusually high temperatures.

  • Ryanair pilots are striking in five European countries today, forcing the cancellation of a sixth of the firm's flights. The 24-hour walk-out involves staff in Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. The action is the largest in a series of strikes over pay and conditions and affects about 50,000 passengers on 400 flights.
