Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 14 September 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

  • Latest figures show that more than 260 new members joined the Prayer Book Society last year. This represents an increase of more than 40% on the previous year, bringing the total to more than 3,000. The number of corporate members, including churches, schools and businesses, rose by almost 50% from 25 to a total of 67.

  • Volkswagen is ending production of its Beetle in 2019, one of the world’s most iconic car designs. The Beetle has its roots in Nazi Germany with the creation of a “people’s car.” However it went on to star in a series of successful Disney films as a vehicle called Herbie.

  • Since speaking to the TUC conference in Manchester where he criticised Amazon and zero-hours contracts, the Archbishop of Canterbury has been censured after it emerged that some Church of England cathedrals use zero-hours contracts and the Church of England invests in Amazon.
