Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 16 November 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Nearly two-thirds of high street bank branches have closed in the last 30 years. In 1988, there were 20,583 branches; now there are only 7,586. This has left many people struggling to access vital financial services.

  • NHS England has said that enough flu vaccine will be available for over-65s to be protected before winter arrives. This comes after GPs and patients were frustrated by a shortage of the vaccine, which is due arrive by Saturday.

  • The Gambling Commission has warned that children are routinely playing fruit machines, as pubs turn a blind eye. The watchdog found that 89% of pubs in a blind ‘mystery shopper’ test failed to stop under-18s gambling on their premises.
