Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 19 October 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Eleven leading evangelical bishops have warned the Church of England not to change its stance on sexuality. In a joint letter, the Anglican bishops warn of "major problems" and the danger of division, if the Church changes its current position that sex is for heterosexual marriage alone and "is the teaching of Scripture.”

  • Radical preacher Anjem Choudary has been released. He was jailed for five-and-a-half years in 2016 for inviting support for the Islamic State group. Until 2016 he led an extremist network linked to violent jihadists, including one of the killers of soldier Lee Rigby in 2013.

  • Swindon council intends to start incinerating mixed plastics as it believes waste sent for recycling is being dumped in landfill overseas.
