Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 20 July 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Sir Cliff Richard won his privacy case against the BBC over its coverage of a police raid on his home. The singer claimed the BBC's reporting of the 2014 raid was a "serious invasion" of privacy. The BBC said journalists acted in good faith and they are considering an appeal.

  • Dominic Raab, the new Brexit secretary, held his first talks with the EU’s chief negotiator in Brussels yesterday. Their meeting comes as the European Commission is instructing other EU states to prepare for a no-deal Brexit.

  • Hundreds of churches across the country are using contactless card machines in a bid to boost donations. In 2016, the Church of England saw parish incomes fall for the first time since records began in 1964. The drop may be due to fewer people attending church services and also fewer making regular, planned donations.
