Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 21 September 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • The most recent Church of England statistics show that attendance at cathedrals rose by 17% between 2006 and 2016. A total of 11.3million people attended at least one cathedral service a year, with choral evensong proving particularly popular.

  • A fair trade charity which began by selling at church halls and markets has decided to end trading, citing an unsustainable business model. Traidcraft started in 1979, selling fairtrade coffee, sugar and chocolate as well as rugs and handmade baskets from Bangladesh.

  • Theresa May has announced a major shift in Conservative policy on council housing. The Prime Minister has made available £2bn in extra funding to build new council homes in England. This is intended to remove the “stigma” of social housing.
