Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 23 November 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • A pair of peregrine falcons are being encouraged to move home while a £2.7m renovation project takes place at an historic Lincolnshire church. St Botolph's in Boston has called in a bird expert to try and persuade the endangered animals to nest in another building.

  • In the run-up to Christmas, churches enjoy some of their largest attendance numbers in the year. The Church of England's Parish Buying team is, therefore, encouraging churches to embrace contactless payments and not miss out on vital donations.

  • Multiple failings, including delays and technical problems, threaten to add nearly £3billion to the cost of the Government’s smart meter roll out. The National Audit Office said the 2020 deadline for every home having a meter will also be missed.

  • The Bishop of London and the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge have jointly launched a new app to help people celebrate the season of Advent. ‘A Good Advent’ is available for Apple and Android, and features an introduction to the meaning of Advent by the recently installed Bishop, Sarah Mullally.
