Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 24 August 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • The government published 25 "technical notices" yesterday setting out what it is doing to prepare for a no-deal Brexit; an outcome it insists it is confident of avoiding. In the coming weeks about 80 notices will be released. This first batch covers areas including medical supplies, financial services, farming and organic food production.

  • A British-Iranian woman jailed for five years in 2016 after being convicted of spying, has been granted temporary release from prison in Iran. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, who denies the claims, has been allowed out for three days to see her young daughter. She is currently with family in Damavand.

  • Gloucester cathedral has installed 17 CCTV cameras in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour around the building. Police say the cathedral grounds often act as an escape route for shoplifters due to the number of exits and entrances. Some of the anti-social behaviour reported nearby includes theft, criminal damage and drunken behaviour.
