Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 28 December 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • December 26th is celebrated in many churches as St Stephen’s Day, when Christians remember Stephen, the first martyr. The saint is name checked in the Christmas Carol, ‘Good King Wenceslas.’

  • Boxing Day is traditionally a busy day in the sporting calendar when horse racing and football take centre stage. Department stores often start their Boxing Day sales on this day with big reductions in the cost of many items.

  • Data released under freedom of information laws has revealed how pothole compensation paid to motorists has increased from £7,000 a month to £40,000 over the last year.
