Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 28 July 2017

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • The parents of terminally-ill baby Charlie Gard have ended their legal battle to allow Charlie to undergo experimental treatment in the US and have decided that Charlie should be allowed to "die with dignity".
  • A group of 23 conservative Anglicans have signed a public letter warning of a revolt over the Church of England's stance on marriage and a possible split within the Anglican church.
  • The average cost of holiday childcare has risen faster than wages over the last few years.
  • The UK's International Trade Secretary does not believe a new UK-EU trade deal will be agreed before March 2019. Discussions are currently in progress with other countries to agree post-Brexit trade deals with the UK.
  • A joint inquiry by the Health and Education Committees before the last election, recommended a whole school approach to the promotion of well-being in schools, and not just through PSHE lessons. Despite a growing prevalence of mental ill health among children and young people, financial pressures on schools have restricted the provision of mental health services to pupils.
