Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 9 February 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • This week politicians, activists and social media users remembered the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act. This gave the vote to virtually all men over the age of 21 and also to some women over the age of 30.

  • Bank of England policymakers have decided to keep interest rates at 0.5% at their latest meeting. They also upgraded their growth forecast for the year from 1.5% to 1.7%. Employment rates are at record levels and wage growth is slowly returning.

  • Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and is the first day of Lent. It is a time of fasting for many Christians, when they remember Jesus’ 40 days of fasting and temptation in the wilderness. This event is recorded in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke.
