The LORD is righteous in all he does, merciful in all his acts. He is near to those who call to him, who call to him with sincerity.

Sunday
Father God, we are concerned that many rural churches are struggling, with priests having to cover more than one parish and deliver services at several towns and villages in the community. Please uphold and strengthen them as they minister to their different congregations. We pray for those making decisions over the future of your Church. Guide them into making wise choices that lead to more people hearing about you. Amen.

Monday
Good Shepherd, we pray for the congregation of Leicester cathedral and its Bishop, Martyn Snow, as the cathedral has closed until Autumn 2023 for major restoration work. May this work be completed successfully. Please bless the services that take place in St Martin’s House for Sunday worship with weekday services in St Nicholas Church. We pray the Christian message will be reflected throughout the city. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Tuesday
Gracious Lord, we pray for all college and university students who have become harder to reach as a result of Covid-19 restrictions. Give wisdom to Christian Unions as they decide effective outreach strategies for this year. Please provide them with opportunities to engage with students who have little chance of hearing the gospel in their own countries. For your glory, we pray. Amen.

Wednesday
Righteous Judge, we thank you for the freedom of speech we enjoy in the United Kingdom. However, we are reminded of Christians who have been victimized for expressing unease over issues such as ‘Pride Marches’ and adoption by same-sex couples. We also think of the criticism JK Rowling has faced for expressing her opinions on transgender rights. We pray that Christians and others can continue sharing their opinions and beliefs without fear of losing their jobs. May they be listened to respectfully and their concerns taken into account. Through Jesus Christ your Son, our Lord. Amen.

Thursday
O Lord, your word in Psalm 46v1 reminds us that you are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. We take a moment now to bow before you with reverence to behold your majesty. Thank you for being among us; you are near and you are our fortress. Amen.

Friday
All Wise Saviour, we bring our police officers to you at this often difficult time. Please, we pray, give them wisdom as they interact with members of the public. Grant them the words to say and let their policing be firm but fair in the way they deal with people. May their authority be respected. We ask that police and churches can work together in every community to reduce crime and improve quality of life for residents. In your precious name. Amen.

Saturday
Heavenly Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ shared at Nazareth the life of an earthly home; we pray for the importance of families and family life. Help us to remember that the family remains such an important part of society. For this reason, we ask that governments of all colours will continue supporting the family. Give them wisdom to recognise how the family environment is crucial to children’s outcomes and long-term development. We ask this prayer in His name. Amen.
Our events taking place
We pray for Chris Hill as he speaks at Time Out with God on 17th January and at his monthly seminar the following day. May his words be an encouragement to all those who attend.
