MONDAY 13TH APRIL 10.30am to 3.30pm
at Mulberry House, Chelmsford Road, High Ongar, CM5 9NL
Ian will reflect on the heart of Paul’s message to the Philippian Church: to live lives worthy of the Gospel, lives lived out in Christ-like humility. How do we do this? By shifting our confidence from ourselves on to Christ alone. How do we do this? By getting to know Christ and having Paul’s glorious aspiration, “I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death” (Philippians 3:10).
To know Christ should be our supreme prayer.
Ian is Editor and Contributor to our Living Light Bible devotional. Ian is a part-time Prison Chaplain, a ministry very dear to his heart. He served as Pastor of Elim Church in Ingatestone, Essex for 28 years and then as a Pastoral Assistant at Billericay Baptist Church. He teaches God's Word in churches and groups in the UK, Europe, India and Africa.

The forgotten discipline of solitude
“It is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.... Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him.” Lamentation 3:26,28.
Jesus saw value in being alone with God. Our first century forefathers also recognised the importance of solitude as an integral part of knowing God. Many notable biblical figures intentionally sought the path of solitude and others, like Joseph and David, unintentionally found its value. Solitude means withdrawing from others, being silent and attentive in order we might hear from God. It is not a virtue in itself, but its purpose is to bring ourselves before God in a way that enables us to listen to Him.
In today’s society, full of distraction and ‘voices’ from all directions, none more so than the mobile ‘phone, let us learn together the value of solitude leading to submission and service.
