The Queen .has marked the 55th birthday of Prince Edward by granting him a title to use in Scotland. When in Scotland, Prince Edward will be known as the Earl of Forfar.
The Liberal Democrats have suspended former leader David Steel over remarks he made to a child abuse inquiry in 1979, about the late MP Cyril Smith. A Scottish Liberal Democrat spokesman said an investigation would take place.
Forty-nine people have been killed and at least 20 wounded in shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. A man in his late twenties was charged with murder and will appear in court on Saturday morning, police confirmed.
