Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 2 November 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Parents and pupils who bully teachers through social media could face a tougher approach from the law under plans hinted at by Theresa May. The Prime Minister suggested a scheme being rolled out to protect emergency workers from violence could be expanded to those who work in schools.

  • On 30th October the Mental Health Units (Use of Force) Bill passed its final debate in the House of Lords meaning that it’s set to become law. The new law will mean mental health hospitals must actively take steps to reduce the use of force against patients, including by providing better training on managing difficult situations.

  • Asia Bibi, a Christian woman and mother of two, who spent eight years on death row has been released. She was accused of making three blasphemous comments about the Prophet Muhammad during a quarrel with Muslim women in 2009.

  • MPs debated the idea of introducing extra public holidays to mark the religious festivals of other faiths. Over 50,000 signed two petitions calling for extra days off for Muslim and Hindu celebrations.
