Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday 18 October 2019

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • Pastor Andrew Brunson prayed over US politicians as they returned to session on Tuesday. Brunson's appearance at the Senate chamber marked one year since his release from a two-year imprisonment in Turkey over false accusations he was linked to a failed coup in the country.

  • On Monday night, there was again racist abuse aimed at England players in their match against Bulgaria, which caused the match to be halted on two occasions. Some fans performed Nazi salutes and racist chanting.

  • Improved technology means satellites in space will be able to detect whale strandings. They will be used to monitor whales and what might be causing the increase in strandings. It will also show deteriorating ocean conditions.
