Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 25 January 2019

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • The Queen has urged people to find "common ground" and to respect "different points of view." Commentators say the remarks will be seen as referring to the Brexit debate. MPs are due to vote on the PM's deal for leaving the EU again next week.

  • The Church of England is trialling a ‘digital collection box’ solution for making charitable donations via contactless technology. Using a card reader and smartphone, members of church congregations can now donate with their card, rather than cash.

  • Fuller's, the brewer whose beers include London Pride, is to sell its entire drinks business to Japan's biggest brewer Asahi. Fuller's said the deal would preserve the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, west London, where beer has been brewed since 1654.
