Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 27 July 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • There will be a lunar eclipse from 8.49pm to 10.13pm in London and Southern England today. The eclipse will be the longest of the 21st century. The moon will also stay closer to the horizon; giving the impression it is much larger than usual.

  • Most Rev Michael Curry, who preached at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in May, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has chosen to undergo surgery next Tuesday. The disease affects 47,000 men in the UK each year.

  • A major report by MPs has warned how Britain is ill-prepared to cope with prolonged heatwaves. The report comes as the Met Office predicts that today may be the hottest day ever in the UK. Temperatures may exceed 38.5°C (101°F).
