Prayers for Parliament and the Nation: Friday, 13 April 2018

" I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. "

- 1 Timothy 2:1-4

  • The Prime Minister recalled ministers from their Easter break for an emergency cabinet meeting on Thursday afternoon. They agreed “on the need to take action” in response to the suspected chemical weapons attack in eastern Ghouta on Saturday.

  • Research by Oxford University has found that weight loss in patients over the age of 60 should be urgently investigated. Unexplained weight loss has long been associated with cancer. Men with unintended weight loss had a 14.2% risk of cancer, with women of the same age having a 6.7% risk.

  • The Bishop of Salisbury will take part in a special service this weekend to celebrate community life in the city and to pray for "cleansing" over the site where a former Russian spy was targeted in a nerve agent attack. The service, at 3pm on Sunday, takes place at St Thomas’ Church in the city centre, a short distance from where Sergei and Yulia Skripal were found.
